🐾 MY RESCUE STORY 🐾
Hi, I'm Gamdong! I'm a beautiful 10-month-old black Jindo mix with a gentle heart and a personality that's just as lovely as my appearance. My story began at the Miryang Municipal Shelter in South Korea, where I was facing the risk of euthanasia before Welcome Dog Korea stepped in and rescued me.
I'm still just a puppy, and much of the world is unfamiliar to me. While other puppies may have had opportunities to explore different places, meet new people, and experience life in a home, there are still many things I haven't had the chance to discover. Because of this, unfamiliar situations can sometimes feel overwhelming, and I may need a little extra time to understand that I'm safe.
But there's something very special about me that my rescuers noticed right away. Despite my fears and limited experiences, I'm an incredibly gentle and kindhearted girl. In fact, my rescuers named me Gamdong, which means "deeply moved" or "touched" in Korean, because they were so moved by how sweet and gentle I am.
Thanks to Welcome Dog Korea, I've been given a second chance to experience the world beyond the shelter. Now, I'm hoping to find a family who will help me discover just how wonderful life can be when you're surrounded by love, patience, and understanding.

💖 MY PERSONALITY 💖
I'm an incredibly gentle, sweet, and good-natured little girl, although you might not realize that during our very first meeting! When I encounter unfamiliar people, I can sometimes bark quite intensely because I'm nervous and unsure of what's happening. Unfortunately, this can make me seem intimidating or unfriendly, but the truth is quite the opposite.
Underneath that nervous first impression is a softhearted puppy who simply needs a little time to feel comfortable. Once someone approaches me calmly and gives me a chance to settle, I'm generally accepting of their presence and affection. I may be shy at first, but I'm not trying to be difficult. I'm just still learning that unfamiliar people and experiences don't have to be scary.
My rescuers describe me as one of those dogs whose gentle nature becomes more apparent the longer you spend time with her. I'm naturally friendly toward both people and other dogs, and although I can occasionally be a little unaware of social cues, I have a kind and cooperative personality.
I'm also a very clever little girl! I absolutely love treats, and my rescuers have noticed that food rewards make training much easier for me. Because I'm still young, there are plenty of things I need to learn, but my intelligence, gentle temperament, and love of food give me a wonderful foundation for making progress.
I may not be the bravest puppy when we first meet, but behind my nervous barking is a sweet little girl who's just waiting to feel safe enough to show you her true personality.
🐶 MY SOCIAL SKILLS 🐶
With People: I can be a little shy around unfamiliar people, and I may initially bark quite intensely when someone new approaches. However, this behavior comes from nervousness rather than an unfriendly personality. When approached calmly, I generally become more comfortable, especially if treats are involved! Once I begin to relax, I can accept affection and handling. Although I'm naturally gentle and people-friendly, I'll benefit from patient introductions that allow me to build confidence at my own pace.
With Children: I haven't had experience with children under 13 yet, so my behavior around younger kids is still unknown. Because I can become frightened by unfamiliar situations, calm introductions and appropriate supervision would be especially important. A home with older, gentle children who understand how to respect a dog's boundaries may be more suitable while I'm building confidence.
With Dogs: I'm generally friendly and peaceful around other dogs. I may approach unfamiliar dogs to say hello, but I don't usually initiate play. If another dog challenges or provokes me, I tend to avoid confrontation rather than respond aggressively. My rescuers have also noticed that I can occasionally be a little unaware of social cues, but overall, I'm a gentle girl who generally gets along well with canine companions.
With Cats: My reaction to cats hasn't been observed yet, so we don't know how I would behave around them. Slow, supervised introductions would be necessary.
⚡ MY ENERGY LEVEL ⚡
I have a moderate energy level, which means I enjoy a lovely balance of outdoor activity and relaxation. I like going for walks, exploring my surroundings, and spending time with people, but once I've had enough activity, I'm generally happy to settle down and rest.
Although I'm still a puppy, I'm not constantly looking for excitement. I enjoy having opportunities to move around and experience new things, but I also appreciate peaceful moments when I can relax and feel comfortable.
Because I'm still building confidence in unfamiliar environments, I'd benefit from a family who introduces me to new experiences gradually rather than overwhelming me with too much at once. Regular walks, gentle playtime, mental enrichment, and positive training sessions will help me develop confidence while keeping me happy and healthy.
🦮 MY WALKING SKILLS 🦮
One of my wonderful qualities is that I'm already quite good at walking on a leash! I have experience going on walks and generally follow my handler well without pulling excessively.
I enjoy being outdoors, and walking provides a wonderful opportunity for me to explore the world at a comfortable pace. Although unfamiliar environments can sometimes make me nervous, having a calm and patient person beside me can help me feel more secure.
My future family can continue building on my existing walking skills by introducing me to new surroundings gradually and rewarding calm, confident behavior. With positive experiences and consistent guidance, I can continue learning that the world outside doesn't have to be frightening.
🏠 MY HOME LIFE & MANNERS 🏠
Although I'm still a young puppy, I've already developed some useful habits. I can use both indoor pee pads and outdoor potty areas, and I generally walk nicely on a leash. I'll still need consistency and guidance as I adjust to a new home, but I have a wonderful foundation to build upon.
One thing my future family should know is that I can sometimes bark when I want something. I may also bark intensely when encountering unfamiliar people or situations because I'm frightened. These behaviors have different causes, so I'll need patient guidance to help me learn how to communicate my needs and feel more comfortable in new environments.
I'm also still learning to feel comfortable inside a kennel. When placed in one, I may whine because I'm not yet completely at ease with the experience. My rescuers have identified kennel training as an important area for improvement, and gradual, positive crate training will help me learn that a kennel can be a safe and relaxing space.
One of my lovely qualities is that I don't show food guarding behavior toward people or other dogs. I enjoy my treats enthusiastically, but I haven't shown a tendency to protect my food from others.
Because I'm still a puppy, I'll need continued guidance around household routines, appropriate manners, and adjusting to new experiences. Thankfully, I'm naturally gentle, intelligent, and very food motivated, which can make training especially rewarding.
🌱 WHAT I'M STILL LEARNING 🌱
I'm still a young puppy who has plenty to discover about the world. Because I haven't had many opportunities to experience different environments, unfamiliar places and situations can sometimes feel frightening. When I become overwhelmed, I may initially panic or bark, but my rescuers have noticed that I can often settle relatively quickly once I have time to adjust.
One of the most important things I'm learning is how to feel safe and confident around unfamiliar people and environments. My future family can help by allowing me to explore at my own pace, rewarding calm behavior, and avoiding situations that push me beyond my comfort level.
I'm also working on becoming more comfortable with kennel time. Since I may whine when placed inside, I'll benefit from gradual crate training that helps me associate the kennel with positive experiences rather than discomfort.
I'll also need continued guidance around occasional demand barking, household manners, and learning how to navigate new situations calmly. Although I can sometimes seem a little unaware of social cues, my rescuers believe I have wonderful potential to improve with consistent training.
The good news is that I'm incredibly gentle, intelligent, and highly food motivated! I love treats, and my rescuers have noticed that I respond well to food-based rewards. These qualities make me a promising student, especially when training is approached with patience and encouragement.
I may still be learning how to navigate the world, but I'm a sweet little girl with so much potential. With the right guidance, I can continue building confidence and discovering just how capable I really am.
🏡 MY IDEAL HOME 🏡
My dream home would be a calm, loving environment where I can feel safe while gradually discovering the world around me. I'm naturally gentle and affectionate, but because unfamiliar experiences can sometimes frighten me, I'd benefit from a family who understands the importance of patience and positive reinforcement.
I'd love people who are willing to give me time to adjust rather than expecting me to feel comfortable with everything immediately. A predictable routine, gentle encouragement, and opportunities to explore new environments at my own pace would help me build confidence.
Because I'm still young, I'll also need continued training and mental enrichment. A family familiar with rescue dogs or shy puppies would be wonderful, especially one who understands how to help a nervous dog feel secure without overwhelming her.
I could potentially live with a calm, compatible canine companion, as I'm generally friendly toward other dogs and tend to avoid confrontation. However, thoughtful introductions would still be important. I'd also be happy as an only dog with a family who can provide plenty of companionship, exercise, and positive experiences.
Since I haven't had experience with young children or cats, those introductions would need to be approached carefully.
Most importantly, I need a family who will look beyond my nervous first impression and recognize the gentle, loving girl underneath. I may need a little extra reassurance at first, but with patience and kindness, I have so much love to share.
✨ WHY YOU'LL LOVE ME ✨
Sometimes, the sweetest dogs are the ones who need a little extra time to show you who they really are.
I think I might be one of those dogs.
When we first meet, I might bark because I'm nervous. I might seem unsure of myself or frightened by something unfamiliar. And if you only saw that first moment, you might misunderstand me.
But if you give me a little time, you'll discover something very different.
You'll meet a beautiful black Jindo mix with a wonderfully gentle heart, a sweet personality, and an eagerness to learn.
My rescuers say I'm so kindhearted that they named me Gamdong, a Korean word associated with being deeply moved or touched.
I may still be a little shy, and I certainly have things to learn, but I'm also an intelligent, affectionate puppy who responds wonderfully to treats and encouragement.
I already walk nicely on a leash, I'm generally peaceful around other dogs, and I have so much potential to become a wonderful companion.
What makes my story especially meaningful is where it began.
I was once a young puppy at the Miryang Municipal Shelter, facing the risk of euthanasia before I had the chance to experience what it means to belong to a family.
Thankfully, Welcome Dog Korea stepped in and gave me another chance.
Now, I have the opportunity to learn that unfamiliar people can become friends, that new places can lead to wonderful adventures, and that the world doesn't always have to feel frightening.
I don't need someone who expects me to be fearless from the very beginning.
I just need someone who will be patient when I'm nervous, celebrate the little moments when I'm brave, and remind me that I'm safe.
My name is Gamdong because my gentle heart touched the people who rescued me. Now, I'm hoping to find a family whose hearts I can touch for the rest of my life. 🖤
