🐾 MY RESCUE STORY 🐾
Hi, I'm Gukjin! I'm a handsome one-year-old Jindo mix with adorable black-and-tan markings and the cutest little eyebrow spots that make me look like I have four eyes! My story began at the Miryang Municipal Shelter in South Korea, where I had been living since I was just a little puppy. While other puppies were learning about the world and growing up with their families, I spent much of my early life inside a shelter without many opportunities to experience life outside.
Eventually, I was placed at risk of euthanasia, but thankfully, Welcome Dog Korea stepped in and rescued me. Because of them, I've been given not only a second chance at life but also the opportunity to receive the training, guidance, and care that I missed during my early years. My rescuers believe that underneath my occasionally clumsy manners is an intelligent, affectionate, and wonderfully promising young dog who's simply waiting for someone to show him the way.

💖 MY PERSONALITY 💖
I'm a friendly, affectionate, and intelligent boy who genuinely enjoys being around people. I can be a little shy when meeting someone new, but it usually doesn't take long for me to warm up, especially if you have treats! I absolutely love food, and once I feel comfortable, I'm happy to approach you, accept affection, and spend time together.
My rescuers describe me as a sweet boy with a goofy, slightly mischievous personality. Sometimes I can seem a little unaware of what's happening around me or how my behavior affects others, but that's largely because I didn't have many opportunities to learn proper manners while growing up in a shelter. I'm not trying to cause trouble; I'm simply still figuring things out!
The wonderful thing is that I'm actually a very clever little guy. I already know how to sit and wait, and my rescuers say I perform both commands very well. I'm highly food motivated and respond nicely to training, which makes me a promising student. With consistent guidance and positive reinforcement, my rescuers believe I have excellent potential to develop into a well-mannered and confident companion.
🐶 MY SOCIAL SKILLS 🐶
With People: I'm naturally friendly and enjoy human companionship, although I may be a little shy during our first meeting. Treats usually help me warm up quickly, and once I'm comfortable, I enjoy being around people and receiving affection. However, I do have some boundaries when it comes to physical handling. I can feel uncomfortable when someone tries to pick me up or touches certain areas, especially around my lower back and waist. My future family should respect these boundaries and help me build confidence through gentle, gradual desensitization and positive reinforcement.
With Children: I haven't had experience with children under 13 yet, so my behavior around younger kids is still unknown. Because I'm still learning appropriate boundaries and can be sensitive to certain types of handling, a home with older, dog-savvy children may be more suitable. Any interactions with children should be carefully supervised.
With Dogs: My interactions with other dogs can vary depending on their personalities. I may approach unfamiliar dogs to say hello, but I don't usually initiate play. Because I grew up without many opportunities to learn appropriate canine manners, I can sometimes approach other dogs too enthusiastically or fail to recognize when they want more space. If another dog challenges or provokes me, I may respond rather than walk away. A careful introductions, supervision, and continued training will be important.
With Cats: My reaction to cats hasn't been observed yet, so we don't know how I would behave around them. Slow, supervised introductions would be necessary.
⚡ MY ENERGY LEVEL ⚡
I have a moderate energy level, which means I enjoy a nice balance of outdoor activity and relaxation. I like going for walks, exploring new surroundings, and spending time with my favorite people, but once I've had enough activity, I'm generally happy to settle down and rest.
Because I'm intelligent and food motivated, I would also benefit from mental enrichment activities, interactive games, and regular training sessions. I'd love a family who enjoys daily walks and helping their dog learn new things while also appreciating peaceful moments together at home.
🦮 MY WALKING SKILLS 🦮
One of my wonderful qualities is that I already walk quite nicely on a leash! I have experience going on walks and generally follow my handler well without pulling excessively. I enjoy being outdoors and exploring new environments, especially when I have someone beside me to guide the way.
Although I already have good walking habits, I'll still benefit from continued positive reinforcement and opportunities to experience different surroundings. After spending so much of my early life in a shelter, there's still an entire world waiting for me to discover.
🏠 MY HOME LIFE & MANNERS 🏠
Although I spent much of my early life in a shelter, I've already developed some wonderful habits. I know how to sit and wait, and my rescuers say I perform both commands very well. I'm also generally calm when placed in a kennel, which provides a good foundation for continued crate training. When it comes to potty habits, I currently use both indoor pee pads and outdoor potty areas, although I'll still need consistency as I adjust to a new home.
One thing my future family should know is that I can sometimes bark when I want something, especially when I'm hoping for treats or attention. With consistent boundaries and positive reinforcement, I can learn more appropriate ways to communicate my needs. I can also become protective of my food around other dogs. While I don't guard food from people, I may growl if another dog approaches while I'm eating, so separate feeding arrangements would be important in a multi-dog household.
I'm also still learning to feel comfortable with certain types of physical handling. Although I'm friendly toward people, I may become uncomfortable when someone tries to pick me up or touches my lower back or waist. My rescuers are planning to work on these skills through gradual desensitization, and my future family should continue helping me build confidence without forcing interactions that make me uncomfortable.
🌱 WHAT I'M STILL LEARNING 🌱
Because I grew up in a shelter from a very young age, I missed some important opportunities to learn appropriate social and household manners. Sometimes I can seem a little clumsy or overly enthusiastic because I don't always understand personal boundaries, particularly when interacting with other dogs.
My rescuers are planning to work on improving my social skills and helping me become more comfortable with handling. I'll also benefit from continued training around demand barking, household routines, and appropriate behavior around food. Thankfully, I'm already showing wonderful potential as a learner. I'm intelligent, highly food motivated, and already know how to sit and wait, so I have a strong foundation for making progress with consistent guidance.
I may have missed some important lessons during my puppyhood, but that doesn't mean it's too late to learn. With patience, positive reinforcement, and people who understand my background, I have every opportunity to become a wonderful family companion.
🏡 MY IDEAL HOME 🏡
My dream home would be filled with patience, understanding, and people who are excited to help a young rescue dog grow. I'm naturally affectionate and friendly toward people, so I'd love a family who enjoys spending quality time with their dog. However, because I missed some important early socialization experiences, I'll need continued training and guidance. A family familiar with Jindos or rescue dogs would be especially wonderful.
I'd benefit from people who understand canine body language, respect personal boundaries, and use positive reinforcement to teach new skills. Because I can be uncomfortable with certain types of handling, I'd do best with a family who won't force physical affection or pick me up unnecessarily. I'd also appreciate a home where my interactions with other dogs can be carefully managed. I could potentially live with a calm, compatible canine companion, but introductions would need to be thoughtful and gradual. If I live with another dog, separate feeding spaces will be important.
I'd also do well as an only dog, especially with a family who enjoys training, walks, and enrichment activities. Most importantly, I need people who will recognize that my occasional lack of manners comes from limited experience, not a lack of potential. I don't need a perfect family. I just need people who are willing to help me become the best version of myself.
✨ WHY YOU'LL LOVE ME ✨
At first glance, you might fall in love with my adorable face. With my beautiful black-and-tan markings and little eyebrow spots, I have the cutest four-eyed expression! But once you get to know me, you'll discover that there's so much more to love. I'm a friendly, affectionate, and intelligent young boy who enjoys being around people. I may be a little shy at first, but treats are usually all it takes to help me feel comfortable, and once we're friends, I'll happily show you my sweet personality.
I already know how to sit and wait, and my rescuers say I'm a wonderful little student. Of course, I still have things to learn. Sometimes I approach other dogs a little too enthusiastically, sometimes I bark when I want something, and sometimes I need a little extra patience when it comes to physical handling. But there's a reason for that. I spent my puppyhood growing up inside a shelter, without the opportunities that many other dogs have to learn about the world.
Thankfully, Welcome Dog Korea stepped in and gave me a second chance. Now, for the first time, I have the opportunity to receive the training, guidance, and care that I should have had all along. My rescuers believe in me. They see an intelligent, affectionate boy who simply needs someone to show him the way, and I hope my future family will see that, too.
I spent my puppyhood waiting for a second chance. Now, I'm hoping to find a family who won't just love the dog I am today, but will also believe in the wonderful dog I can become. 🤎
